Phantom Ball 2014

On January 25, I attended the 11th Annual Phantom Ball in Texarkana. This event is a fundraiser that helps Temple Memorial Rehabilitation Center raise funds for children with disabilities. I helped with the live auction, plus had a great time enjoying the food, dancing, and company! There was also a silent auction. The 5 items I was able to get donated were successfully auctioned off, and I went home with a couple of items myself!! The night was a huge success!!
Each year a child is chosen as Temple Memorial Rehabilitation Center kid of the year. This year, precious Chloe was chosen! She has been a part of Temple since she was only a few months old. I enjoyed hearing her parent's testimony of how much of a difference the therapists at Temple have made in Chloe's life, helping her achieve goals many doctor's thought would never be possible. If you missed the Phantom Ball this year, make sure to attend next January! Tons of fun for a great cause!!

My friend Kristie, me, and my mom

Kristie and I with Frank, a previous Phantom (The criteria for "Phantom" is one who gives generously of their time and financial support to the Temple Center and the community of Texarkana. The Phantom hosts the ball.)

And here's a flashback for you!! When I was Miss Teen Texarkana 2005, The Phantom Ball was my very first appearance!! I was only 13.

As always, thanks for stopping by!!

Money talks

"It's 2 o'clock in the morning...studying is abhorring....my brain doesn't have much more room....can I please go to bed soon"

Don't get me wrong, I am so very glad I'm in nursing school and I am completely confident that I will love my job once I graduate. But, If you know me, you know I take sleep very seriously. Tuesday was the first day of the spring semester and it is already pedal to the metal. As I was singing that little song as visions of care plans danced in my head, I forgot just for a moment how fortunate I am. I attend one of the top 100 nursing schools in the nation...and I haven't paid a dime for my first year's tuition and books. You read that right. ZERO. And there are plenty of students who would gladly take my spot in the program in a New York minute.

Again, I am a huge advocate for the Miss America Program and how they empower young women. One of the many wonderful things the Miss Arkansas organization has done for me is provide me with over $5300 in scholarships!!! And that is only within this last year!! I am so very thankful for the opportunity to further my education and pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. The Miss Arkansas Scholarship Organization has made it a reality. So, with that said, I'll humbly go back to preparing for my clinical day.

Here is a picture of me in my scrubs on my first day of school. (Yes, my mother still demands a first day of school photo). My parents are proud, and very thankful for the Miss Arkansas Organization, too!!

Thanks again for stopping by!

I was crowned Miss White River 2014 in August. I couldn't have been more excited!!! Here I am pictured with my awesome director Mark Sparks and my sister queen Miss Batesville Rachel Roebuck. I just love them!!

My first blog post!

Well here it goes, my first (of hopefully many) blog posts! To be honest, I'm probably one of the least tech-savvy people you know. If the remote isn't working correctly I'm just about ready to toss it across the room. However, I have found this is a great way to tell people about myself, my goals, and my mission as Miss White River 2014 as I vie for the title of Miss Arkansas! I can't wait to share my journey with you!

My name is Klancy Johnson. I'm a 22 year old student in the nursing program at Texarkana College. I have taken dance for 17 years and have extensive training in ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics. I'm currently a Graduate Dance Instructor at Judith McCarty School of Dancing where I have been assisting and teaching dance classes for over 8 years. I have also been singing on stage since the age of 6. I have won many awards and I debuted my own original album at the age of 13. I started competing in the Miss America System at the age of 13. In Miss Teen Arkansas 2005 I won the preliminary talent award and placed in the top 13. In the three years that followed I placed in the top 10 at the state level. In 2011 I started to vie for the title of Miss Arkansas as Miss Diamond Lakes in 2011. I won the alpha interview award at Miss Arkansas. I competed in Miss Arkansas in 2013 as Miss Texarkana. I won the preliminary lifestyle and fitness award in swimsuit as well as placed in the top 10. I'm a huge advocate for this scholarship program!!

So that's just a tad bit of information about me! As you may notice, the title of my blog is "Think Pink: Breast Cancer...You're Never Too Young". I can't wait to share my story with you as well as my commitment to breast cancer awareness.

But for now, back to studying! Thanks for stopping by!

Love,
